Youth Trauma Allies -

Youth Trauma Allies came into being when Rachel and Liz through their school counselling roles recognised to help Young People through distress their Allies needed to understand more, know more, and be supported more.

In order for Youth Trauma Allies to accurately represent young people and their needs young people need to be an integral part of our community interest company, which is why we have a young adult (18) as our Youth Voices Director.

  • Helping build a sense of trust & safety through language used, wanting to understand more, never blaming / shaming.

  • Listen, compassion, respectful & human.

  • It all begins with working together as a team to find ways to create flexibility, provide choice and help a young person feel valued & in control.

  • Consider cultural stereotypes / bias around aspects such as disability, race / ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, geography & socio economic grouping.

  • validating worth, listening, responding to needs, developing authority, advocacy, autonomy, sense of control.
